This set of composing resources are designed to be used with groups of beginner instrumentalists up to Grade 3. They can be used with beginner mixed instrumental ensembles but would also work well with Wider Opportunities/WCET classes. Some can also be adapted to be used in small group and one to one instrumental lessons and some will work well with more advanced students.

This activity uses physical movements and gestures to compose musical ideas which have clearly defined characters and are then combined to create small group pieces. The activity provides a clear template for starting with an extra-musical ideas and translating it into music using simple and effective strategies
